Off the Wall – Michael Jackson Tribute

Off The Wall was first formed by bassist Paul Barker, guitarist Fluff Fortune and vocalist Kevin Fitzpatrick to play the Ring o’ Bells, Bradford, in 2000.

By 2005, Off The Wall had moved up to performing in the UK’s provincial theatres, touring the country’s first ‘Pulse’ style show rivalling the Australian Pink Floyd for size of the show and audiences.

Vocalist Adele Harley (2005 – 08 and re-joined 2014) recalls her first show with the band was at the legendary Manchester Apollo which she describes as ‘fantastic’.

The band went on to do smash hit shows at The Liverpool Empire (acclaimed by some as the best gig ever), Colston Hall and a host of others before organising the first of many events at Halifax Piece Hall in 2006.

That gig drew 2000 people one summer night in August.

Later that year the band began its first international performances in Portugal before going on to perform in Russia, Kazakhstan, Sweden and Europe.

An outdoor performance in a Baltic sea port left guitarist Fluff with fingers so cold:: ‘’I coudn’t play properly!’’ Their performance in Berlin in 2008 was filmed and released on DVD Featuring Stella Fairhead on ‘Great Gig in the Sky’ and Neil Fairclough on bass.

Neil later joined the British rock legends ‘Queen’.

In late 2008 the band split, with several members leaving to form the now defunct Spirit of Pink Floyd.

Off The Wall recruited a new rhythm section bringing in Ian Hawkins and Mike Bedford and vocalist Sulene Fleming.

In 2009, the band performed to over 4000 people in Ukraine (no pressure there then) and went on to Russia (including Siberia and Chechnya!) then Portugal and even included a smattering of UK dates.

This continued on through 2010 and Off The Wall’s tenth anniversary tour of the UK, including a home town show at Bradford St George’s Hall.

In summer the same year, the band performed at the massive Fataci Festival in Portugal in front of an audience of 10,000.

After their fourth concert at Halifax Piece Hall in 2011, original guitarist Dave ‘Fluff’ Fortune called it a day and the band took this as a cue for some well earned rest.

An invitation to perform at the October Rock Fest at Riga Latvia prompted Off The Wall to return to the stage in October 2012.

Now boasting two guitarists, Peter Morton and Al Morrison, they took the stage at 2.30 in the morning performing to over a 1,000 people.

From this success the new line up stormed shows at Huddersfield Town Hall and Hull City Hall as well as taking a crazy trip across the Atlantic in April 2013 to perform in Guatemala City and at the Cisco, San Salvador in April.

Bassist/vocalist Ian Hawkins said: ‘’The noise from the crowd was incredible right from the first chorus of ‘Shine’ when they practically drowned out the PA.

They were very happy we were there and the whole thing was quite emotional, it remains one of my all time favourite experiences with any band ever’’ The band played to 3,500 people over two nights, followed in May by an outdoor performance in Villanus, Lithuania.

In October that year, drummer for the past three years Anthony Sargeant retired for family reasons.

After rehearsing a new show with new sticks man David Champken and returning vocalists Adele (now singing the legendary ‘Great Gig in the sky’) and Carolyn Harley and new recruit Saxophonist/Vocalist Sam Hampstead, Off The Wall performed in Halifax, Hull, Huddersfield, and at Lincoln Drill Hall and Lowther Paviliion

2015 sees an entirely new and ground breaking show and as usual a fantastic mix of oldies, goldies and classics from the Pink Floyd catalogue which the band will perform all round the UK and once again setting their sights on the international scene.
